Better Off Swapped

Victoria and Mona sit on the couch like two cats who’ve eaten the same bored houseplant twice. “We need to dump them,” Mona groans. Victoria nods, then freezes mid-nod. “Wait. Yours is actually my type.” They trade sly looks, the kind that should need its own safeword. Cut to the double date and a round of couple charades that suddenly requires “intimate trust falls.” Magically the teams rearrange: Victoria slides next to Ana, Mona next to Charlotte, and the temperature in the room jumps ten degrees. Hands linger, breath hitches, eye-contact lasts half a second too long. Ana clocks it first. “Are you two seriously swapping girlfriends like trading cards?” Charlotte folds her arms, skeptical but blushing. Victoria owns up on the spot: “Ours hit the wall months ago, but maybe the wrong pair hit it.” She points at Ana. “You’re who I want.” Mona shrugs at Charlotte. “And you feel like home.” Ana and Charlotte blink, trade a look that says both are turned on and still weighing murder. Then Mona grins. “How about a no-pressure, all-in foursome to test-drive the idea?” The girlfriends exchange one last glance. Charlotte’s smirk cracks first. “Fine. But if the chemistry sucks, we keep the apartment and you two get the futon.” Clothes start hitting the floor before the rules are even finished.
