Escape From Camp Conversion - Chapter 1

Picture it: 1980s, set against the flick of the right wrong side of a bad VHS. Jenna, sporting feathered hair and fury, gets chucked into Camp Conversion—a brick-and-bullshit factory that’s hell-bent on sandblasting the "lesbian" out of every teenage girl sent its way. Octavia Red lights her up like neon, that easy skip in her step gone once mom and dad drop her at the iron gates. Inside the chain-link fence, Lucy (Demi Hawks), Angela (Leana Lovings), Samantha (Alex Coal), Ameena Green, and Selena Ivy already know the drill: five a.m. naked jumping jacks under floodlights, anti-sapphic chants barked out between push-ups, and the daily game of Do Not Come, sponsored by counselors Victoria, Marcy, and Lynn—played with straight faces and strapons. The trio roam the yard in denim cut-offs, sunglasses, and pocket-bibles, trading terrible advice like trading cards. Over them all hovers the camp god, Nina (Sophia Locke), ponytail sharper than her clipboard and a smoke curling in her grip. They watch Ameena, Lucy, and Angela trib on a picnic table while the counselors count out loud, stabbing the air with fingers whenever someone so much as shivers. Jenna clutches the bench so hard her knuckles go white, but her spine stays straight. Her turn arrives after lights out. Three women wrestle her onto a dusty mattress in the staff shack, facesit, grind, rail her like they’ve got points for thoroughness while Nina leans in the doorway twirling keys. Jenna meets every push, every sticky threat, and still spits, “I’m not changing.” She’s bruised, naked, gasping, and grinning. At dawn, rumor cracks through the ranks like static on the PA: a new girl, Lulu Chu as Lily, just checked in. For the first time Jenna sees an ally with sharp eyes and a half-stashed escape map pressed flat under her sock. Time to dig out before the next conga line of morning affirmations starts. She’s gay, she’s grounded, and she’s out of here.
