Party preparations

We were supposed to be setting up Jeannie's room for the party when Lis bought a pack of balloons and started blowing them up one at a time like a clown who'd missed the circus. Within minutes everybody joined in and before you know it our grown-up game turned into a full-blown free-for-all—balloons smacked against bare skin, bits of latex popping against my belly, Lis's t-shirt riding up while Miguel swatted a red one between her legs like a netball. We all stopped laughing at once when those quick breathy sighs started kicking in.
