Trust The Process

Sacha sits in her lawyer's office, her sister Linda pacing beside her. Both women are pissed the jury still hasn't called it. Linda's convinced Juror 11—Seth—is the holdout and, worse, a walking cliché of a sleaze. Bill rubs his temples and tells them to trust the system. He also reminds them they might lose anyway. Linda stares at him like he's sprouted a second head, then gets a plan that she can already feel biting the back of her neck. The next afternoon she spots Seth by the courthouse steps, collar open, coffee in hand. She times the collision perfectly: shoulder bump, fake apology, big smile. Thirty seconds later he's asking whether she needs directions. Ten after that he's offering her a seat on his living-room couch so she can interview him for her "article." He keeps glancing at her legs when he thinks she won't notice. Inside, Seth sighs about wanting the trial over, says all he needs is one stubborn holdout on his side. He doesn't say the word "me," but he doesn't need to; Linda smiles, crosses her ankles, and decides she's going to get exactly what she came for—permission for the jury to end this thing before sundown.
