Nicole Kitt and her husband Miles Fallon are checking out quotes for a reno. The contractor, Jake Switch, stops by with his clipboard and keeps dropping jokes that sound a lot dirtier than they need to be—right in front of Miles. Miles corners Nicole in the kitchen while Jake measures the hallway. “Did you hear that bullshit? He keeps making eyes at you.” Nicole snorts. “He isn’t looking at me, babe. Every time you say ‘length’ or ‘width,’ Jake practically licks his lips. I swear the man is desperate for what’s between your legs.” Miles glances through the doorway. Jake is on his knees now, running a tape measure along the baseboard, whistling low. Miles feels a zip of heat. “Seriously?” “Yup. We could ask him if he wants to fix more than the sink. You in?” When they pitch the idea to Jake—straight up, nothing fancy—he grins like it’s already decided. The measuring tape drops to the floor with a little metallic clack.
